The sky in November 2026

Leonids under a half Moon, a near-supermoon Beaver Moon on 24 November, Jupiter and Mars before dawn and Saturn in the evening.

October 29, 2026

November brings long nights to the north, which also means the aurora season is in full swing. Check tonight’s outlook whenever the Kp forecast rises.

Moon

New Moon on 9 November gives the darkest skies of the month. The full Beaver Moon on 24 November is only about 760 km short of our 360,000 km supermoon line, so it will look big and bright. December’s full Moon on the 24th is a true supermoon.

Meteors

The Leonids peak around 17 November. The Moon is at first quarter and sets near midnight, so the hours before dawn are dark. Expect 10–15 meteors an hour from a dark site; they are the fastest of all showers at 71 km/s. The slow, sometimes bright Taurids are active all month.

Planets

  • Evening: Saturn shines steadily in the south-east to south.
  • Morning: brilliant Jupiter and orange Mars stand high before dawn. Mercury reaches its best morning position around 20 November, low in the south-east.
  • Uranus is at opposition on 25 November: just visible to the naked eye from a dark site, easy in binoculars in Taurus.
